Why, hello! [27 May 2010|08:09pm]
I have been scarce around here because, for the most part, I've migrated to Tumblr:

I will still be around to post comments on friends' LJ some, though.

Elliptical Cat [02 Jan 2010|12:56pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

This morning, Josh told me to check the last few shots taken on our camera and this is what I saw:

He went into the study early in the morning and found her like that in her bed. All curled up zzz-ing! Like a perfect ellipse! I had to draw a line around her:

How did you do that, Nyonyo? By the way, today's date is a palindrome!

Settling down [21 Dec 2009|10:14pm]
[ mood | calm ]

I didn't want to update until I had my photographer's wedding photos back to share, but it's going to take longer than I thought. Life is nice; I enjoy being a wife and having a husband. Our days are pretty simple outside of work and we feel very cozy. Sometimes it is a little trying to deal with Skuz, but things have gotten better since we picked up a water bottle I can use to spray him when he's being bad (which is more often than not). I knit a couple of things:

A scarf I wear to work often

and a sweater

In case I don't update for a bit, I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Wedding Projects [03 Oct 2009|09:35pm]
[ mood | calm ]

I've been busy!

I knit the Purity Wedding Shawl. This is actually the second shawl I knit for my wedding! My first one, Ishbel, came out a little too small, so when I saw how beautiful Pax*knits's Purity came out for her friend's wedding, I knew I had to make one for myself. I left off the second edging.

Pattern: Purity from Rowan 43
Yarn: 2 balls Kidsilk Haze in Cream
Needles: US 9

See more photosCollapse )

I also made 10 pomanders out of silk roses I ordered off of eBay. I used 500 roses. @__@!! These will hang every other chair row at the ceremony.

I am also working on a lot of other stuff for the wedding, but won't post photos until the wedding. XD

Some inspiration for myself (yes, even more wedding talk) [19 Aug 2009|08:00pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

For the last few weeks, I've been living and breathing wedding planning. Plan, plan, plan, plan, plan! I guess I'm just one of those people who needs to know what the road map looks like, but Josh is the complete opposite; he's so carefree. Opposites attract? Anyway, my incessant planning got to the point where it kept me awake at night for many nights, so Josh and I have hired a planner/day of coordinator to help us with some tasks here and there. And thank goodness for her, for I've started sleeping almost like a normal person again.

I've been following Style Me Pretty for wedding inspiration and today they launched an 'inspiration board' creator. So, I used it to put together a general vision of the feel of our wedding.

A little whimsy here and there

We're going for a slightly whimsical, yet classic/vintage look (if that even makes sense). The invitations above are very similar to our palette. Ooh, invitations! Amy found an affordable letterpress company in Chicago and we'll be getting the invitations and reply cards letter-pressed! (The designer in me is wagging its tail.) We're very close to settling on a baker as well. Josh and I really like Sugar Butter Flour. (Isn't their name cute!?)

I've been crafting a lot too! I finished knitting a light mohair shawl to wear with my dress in case it's cold, since it'll be in November. Also, I've been experimenting with a lot of paper crafts for favor presentation, decorations, etc. Josh jokes that I will suffer some sort of post partum after the wedding because there will be nothing else to do! I guess I'll work on decorating our place after? @_@;;

THE ONE [21 Jun 2009|06:47pm]
[ mood | enthralled ]

Meet Alberta.

Another photo:
Indianapolis Monthly - Soft and Stunning

Hello, Alberta by WTOO, I love you. I really, really do!

They say you'll put on the dress and you'll know it's "the one." I didn't think that was going to happen to me, but I went to Elegant Lace Bridal today hoping to see a certain dress from the WTOO Fall 2009 line (thanks, junosama , for pointing me to the dress line and thank you crazyspork_i_am  for pointing me to the store), but the manager said they didn't carry it yet. Instead, she pulled out another WTOO dress that I thought was kinda whatever on the hanger, but when I put it on...

I think I had tears well up in my eyes.

It was BEAUTIFUL on me. I could sing the praises of that dress forever. It had everything I could want...it's soft, light, airy, ethereal, floral, delicate... oh, I fell in love! When I stepped out of the fitting room and showed my sisters and mother, Amy said, "It's so YOU." I had such a silly huge grin on my face; I didn't want to take it off even! Needless to say, I placed an order for it immediately and got a nice discount on it AND the rush shipping (it was already well within my price range)! Could I want anything more? Oh wait, yes, my sisters found their bridesmaids dresses there too. :)

I swear I have hearts in my eyes right now...

Get to the fun part already [11 Jun 2009|05:57pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

Here's a silly photo Pat shot of Josh and I at Maker Faire a weekend or two ago. That's CP's hand reaching out creepily. I am starting to notice that there aren't a lot of photos of Josh and I together... I guess we forget to aim the camera at ourselves a lot of the time!

There's about a hundred things I'm supposed to get done by the end of July according to TheKnot.com's checklist, and I've only done maybe...23. We're checking out a possible ceremony site tomorrow afternoon and I'm pretty sure we'll sign the rental agreement on it. I am not a bridezilla. I've been asked by a few people already if they think I'll turn into one, but I don't think I will. I am pretty easy-going and not too picky about stuff in general. Though in the unlikely situation that I start getting unreasonable about anything, I'm sure the maid of honor or Josh will slap some sense into me. It's actually been a somewhat smooth experience thus far and Josh has been very helpful and insightful, probably more so than the average Joe groom because of his interest in art, fashion, and design. Together, we found a photographer whose aesthetic we really, really like and luckily, he's able to squeeze us in as his last wedding shoot of the year! I had no idea some photographers, and other wedding venues/services, book up a year in advance...at the shortest! I am fast finding out that the wedding industry is built around a six month MINIMUM, which I find pretty dumb. I feel really bad for people who have even shorter engagement periods than us - seems like it'd be quite rough getting things accomplished. Anyway, back to more positive stuff. I've been looking at all these DIY ideas for invitations, programs, decorations, etc. and am getting super excited about working on all that. THAT to me is the fun part of the wedding - screw finding the right dress, let me at designing stuff already!!

A good weekend [01 Mar 2009|11:16pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

I've had a good weekend. After work on Friday I got rid of a few inches of pesky hair, so it's all short and bobbed now. I've always favored short hair on myself, not so much for the style but the ease of upkeep. I can't be bothered to blow dry sometimes let alone comb my hair! (I don't think I've combed/brushed my hair in five years...) It's odd because I'll spend some time on makeup, but I'm so indifferent about my hair. Sometimes, however, I imagine having longer hair because I fret about the lack of things to do with short hair, to make it pretteh. Like if I was getting married, I'd just have to put a barrette or hairband on, which might not be as fun as curls or chignons or updos. I suppose I could get extensions for special occasions, hmm.

Josh took me to Stitches West on Saturday, a knitting convention held this weekend at the Santa Clara Convention Center. So while practically everyone else I knew was hanging out with fanboys in Wondercon in SF, I was getting my fiber geek on. I'm not sure if I will ever get over the feast of yarn and color the market has to offer. Even though there were fewer vendors this year, there was still plenty of stuff to check out and pine after. There was more sock yarn than anything else, but too bad I have no interest in knitting socks whatsoever. I think this makes me weird as far as typical knitters go... oh well. As this was my second trip, I went a bit more prepared than last year with a rough idea of things I might want to pick up. I ended up walking away with 4 balls of Valley Yarns Hadley in gray from WEBS, a bag (10 balls) of outrageously soft Sublime Angora Merino in a light blue also from WEBS, a Knitwhits Bramble Owl Softie kit from Yarndogs, and the Charlie cowl pullover pattern from Jordana Paige. And it turns out that Josh and I couldn't escape comics after all for the weekend and picked up issue one of a knitting comic called "Handknit Heroes" there!

Today I spent the day at home with my sisters, hiding out from the rain. I've been knitting like crazy all day - over six hours and my hands aren't tired yet. ;;; We watched Tropic Thunder because my youngest sister hadn't seen it yet. Ahh that movie is so funny! :D

Froggy Hat [01 Feb 2009|08:39pm]
[ mood | happy ]

Two More PhotosCollapse )

Pattern: Frog Beanie
Yarn: O-Wool Classic
Hook: 4.25 mm

Got some real crochet practice with this one. I can crochet a circle now!! My gauge was larger so I stopped increasing at 72 sts. Instead of gluing on googly eyes, I crocheted the eyes with DK weight scrap yarn. My coworker Jill kindly donated some stuffing for the eyes. He loves it! And you know a man loves you when he'll get in 40 degree water for you just so you can shoot some silly photos of a frog in action. :D

Into the Wild [18 Jan 2009|07:37pm]
[ mood | calm ]

More PhotosCollapse )

Pattern: Sylvi
Yarn: 14 hanks of Berroco Peruvia Quick
Needles: US 10 and 7mm

Sylvi is done. I ended up only using 14 hanks instead of the 15 I bought. This is a very, very dense and heavy coat, but it has undeniable wow factor. It has taken quite a bit of work and frustration, but in the end, I am very happy with the results. I bought leather buttons ($5 buttons?!) at Britex in San Francisco and sewed them on this morning. Josh took me to Castle Rock to shoot some photos of the FO (finished object). It was a beautiful day out and we got some nice shots. Unfortunately, I lost one of the buttons on the trail. :( Good thing I bought an extra one, though. I need to reinforce the buttons!

Some thoughts in retrospect:

- I think I would have knit the back first as usual because my row gauge was different when knitting the sleeves in the round from knitting the other pieces flat. I had to frog half the back piece when I found this out.

- I used to hate seed stitch but I don't mind it so much anymore after this project.

- Wool coats take daaaaaaaays to dry after wet blocking!

- I think I must like patterns with leaf motifs. *sweatdrop*

- I do believe this is my first FO of 2009.

Four Day Weekend! [30 Nov 2008|12:31pm]
[ mood | full ]

I love having four days off!!! AAAHHH!!! :D

My family had our Thanksgiving meal with my dad's side of the family in my grandma's house in Daly City. Josh and I made some garlic mashed potatoes (using a combination of a recipe from All Recipes and from our coworker, kaia9). My sister Amy made red velvet cupcakes.

We had a lot of Burmese food and honey-baked ham instead of turkey. :9 It was nice to see my cousins again too; they came home from college in so. Cal for the weekend.

Josh and I watched "The Lost Boys" because he said I'd like it if I liked "Twilight." It had its moments. :D And then my sisters and I watched "Twilight" AGAIN! *LOL* Well, it was the first viewing for Amy, technically. I got a chance to do a ton of knitting this weekend too. I finished my Silken Scabbard. You can see some of Josh's manga/book collection in the background.

And I've started working on the Side Slip Cloche.

Here's hopin' it comes out okay!

Halloween Get-up [31 Oct 2008|10:58pm]
There were a lot of costumed co-workers at work today for Halloween! I dressed up as a Gothic Lolita person.

Why is Nick menacing me?

Slightly better, but not really, photo

The mini top hat made me so dandy! Everyone wants one now.
